The 50th reunion was my first! It's about time! It's been a very busy 50 years! It was so much fun, I am back for the 55th.
We lived in the Atlanta area till '78, when we moved to El Paso, Texas, then to Colorado in '98. Three of our four kids (and two grands next door) were there, with one still in Texas (nice warm place to go in the winter and four grands). So in 2014 all but the youngest moved to New Braunfels, Texas. Now only the youngest is in Colorado, and the rest of us live within three miles of each other. We love it, and don't miss the ice and hard winters at all.
After Mercer University, where I met my husband, I taught preschool through post-secondary medical and legal students, and subbeds at our church academy. With PBS, Time Warner, and a family literacy grant in El Paso, I was Public Access Coordinator (part-time) at a local TV station since '98 and
loved it. I work helped about 50 folks make their own programs that we broadcast on Channel 8.
I was active at our church, played for all the Spanish services, was in choir, had many friends, and spent lots of time with my family. My husband passed away in 2009 after a terrific 45-year marriage. We lived on 35 acres in the country, with beautiful views of the Rockies and a bunch of two-and four-footed friends. Now we are in town, and it's nice to have neighbors and be no more than five minutes from everything.
I am in church choir, Community Chorale, tutor little guys in reading, counsel several adult spouses dealing with dementia and Alzheimers or parents dealing with ADHD, and serve as chauffeur for the five grandkids---three in sports and two in music activities. The oldest graduated from 'Bama recently with a B.S. in Marine Biology and Conservation; she will be at Duke in NC for grad school.
I am spending the summer traveling all over the South and West, am into genealogy research, which has resulted in many new friends and places. If I'd died yesterday, it would have been a terrific life, but I'm always looking forward to tomorrow!
We were 30 miles north of Denver, 30 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park, and now are about halfway between Austin snd San Antonio, just off I-35. Schlitterbahn, the world's largest water park, is five minutes away, so if you come this way, you are welcome to stay with me!
There are still places I'd like to go, things I'd like to do, and old and new friends I'd like to meet, starting with the 55th reunion!
See you there!
